Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the relationship between Intolerance to Frustration and Resilience in 355 subjects residing in Argentina from 14 to 25 years old (M=19.64, SD=3.31). The Frustration Intolerance Scale (IFS), the Resilience Scale (RE) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were used. Medium and low significant inverse correlations were found between the total EIF and total ER, and between the dimensions emotional intolerance and intolerance to discomfort (EIF) with self-efficacy and capacity for purpose and meaning in life (ER). In contrast, discomfort intolerance correlated positively with cognitive avoidance. The women obtained higher scores in the total EIF (z= -2.06; p= .4,r= .11) and in emotional intolerance (z= -3.48; p= .001, r=.18). In the RE, men scored higher than women in cognitive avoidance (z= -3.24; p=.001, r=.17) and in its total (z= -2.47;p= .01, r =.13). Age correlated inversely with discomfort intolerance (r=-.13; p<.05), and rights (r= -.17; p<.01) and directly with self-efficacy capacity (r= -.12; p<.05). In addition, the higher the educational level, the less intolerance to frustration and greater resilience.
This study presents evidence showing that having a good resilient capacity is related to having a low intolerance to frustration, since the latter can influence against efficient adaptation to adversity
